Workforce Development Peer Exchange

UTEC's Workforce Development peer exchange provides an opportunity for partners to engage in a collaborative learning environment focused on best practices for young adult employment and re-entry services. This exchange will highlight UTEC's evidence-based model, featuring discussions on social enterprise management, and transitional employment. Participants will explore strategies for transitional employment opportunities and creating sustainable career pathways for justice-involved young adults.

Training Learning Objectives

  • Strengthen workforce development skills – Participants will identify 3 skills, tools, or strategies that support career growth in gun violence prevention (GVP) work.
  • Apply and practice workforce development skills – Participants will actively engage in at least one case study, role-play, or group discussion during the session and contribute at least one idea, strategy, or solution relevant to workforce development.
  • Gain knowledge about social enterprise model – Participants will be able to define the social enterprise model and identify at least two ways it can support workforce development and career pathways in gun violence prevention (GVP) by the end of the session.
  • Build the GVP professional network – Participants will establish at least 5 new connections within the gun violence prevention network and exchange contact information to support future collaboration.

  • Overview of Workforce Development Programs: Learn how workforce development initiatives create opportunities for young adults to gain paid work experience and build job and life skills.
  • Youth-Centered Program Design: Explore strategies for supporting young people as they progress at their own pace toward personal and professional goals.
  • Social Enterprise Model: Understand how social enterprises operate and how they support both youth development and organizational sustainability.
  • Triple Bottom Line Approach: Examine how workforce development programs balance youth development, earned revenue generation, and community economic impact.
  • Building Job and Life Skills: Discuss approaches to helping young adults develop workplace readiness, confidence, and independence.
  • Peer Learning and Knowledge Exchange: Share experiences, challenges, and promising practices with peers implementing workforce development programs.
