Meet Young People

Filix

I met a UTEC Streetworker when I was in jail, and I immediately knew that I wanted to go to UTEC when I got out because of how consistent their visits were. I knew I could depend on them.

When I first started at UTEC, I was really shy and kept to myself. I didn’t like asking for help, and I would just bottle it up any time I had a bad day.

Since prioritizing my mental health with my counselor, I’ve learned how to talk through how I’m feeling to better identify what’s going on, and it’s been so helpful that I’m not afraid to ask for help anymore. I’ve also gotten more comfortable trying new things.

I’m more social, more talkative, and I’ve also learned a lot about public speaking through doing the Candidate Forums and the Gala.

I’m feeling good – working on passing all my HiSET tests. I was in the Woodshop, but now I’m working my way up in Culinary because I want to be a chef. I think it’s a great career, and I have a daughter on the way. I’m so excited to be a dad, and I want to set a good example for her.

I’m really proud of everything I’ve overcome, and I’m excited for my future.

Madd Love,
