Last Thursday, UTEC’s main hall offered a sight that would have warmed even the heart of The Grinch himself. Bedecked with holiday streamers, lights, colorful gifts, tasty treats, and a large holiday tree, the hall was filled with UTEC youth and staff, along with many of their young children, all happily gathered for UTEC’s annual holiday party.
As young families wandered the great hall, they were greeted at each table with some special activity or game. Amidst the excited squeals of the children, the holiday music, and the twinkling of lights, there were games of chance, make-and-take holiday craft creations, raffles, and, of course, gifts for all the children.
Eventually everyone gathered together for a full holiday dinner, prepared by UTEC’s energetic culinary crew, who made sure everyone was treated to a fine and tasty repast. During the meal, as part of the “Holiday Tree Sharing” time, all were invited to take turns to stand up and offer words of thanks and reflection during this often emotional time of year.
It’s no secret that many people who spend time at UTEC, whether its youth or staff, often refer to the place as being like ‘home’ or being with your ‘family,’ a powerful sentiment that indeed rang loud and true throughout the halls of UTEC last Thursday.
Thanks for all of your support this year. Please consider making a year-end gift to break barriers to youth success in 2017.
