The House Meal Awards at UTEC are the cornerstone of recognizing progress for our young people. Young adults are often enrolled at UTEC for about 2 years, and they make astonoshing achievements every month.
From keeping a positive attitude and excellent attendance to receiving a learner’s permit or even registering to vote, young people make strides through their hard work toward the “social and economic success” of our mission.
On the day of House Meal, our staff emcee welcomes young people, AmeriCorps members, and youth workers inside the gym for an ice breaker to kick off the ceremony. Once everyone is off to a good start, lunch is served and catered by Café UTEC.
Over this special occasion meal, young adults and staff connect with each other, so House Meal creates a feeling of togetherness and family cohesion. But the benefits of House Meal go beyond food and unity. It is also an opportunity to provide positive development among our young people. Young people are actively participating in programs to gain life skills as they work through our workforce development training, social justice, and education programming.
After dessert comes another team building activity, then the highlight – House Meal Awards for each of our young people who achieved person goals within the past month. We are so proud to have a team so full of contagious passion!
